Howe, IN.  –

Belmor, a leading provider of heavy duty truck accessories, is proud to announce that the winner of the inaugural Belmor “I Did My Duty… Now I Drive Heavy Duty” contest to send a US Military Veteran, who is now a commercial truck driver, to the 2017 Mid-America Truck Show (MATS) is Michael Maines of Durand, Michigan. The contest was open to all United States Military Veterans who are currently commercial truck drivers. Drivers entered by submitting a brief essay about their military service, why they chose to enter the field of heavy truck driving and their connection to the trucking world and fellow drivers.

The submissions were reviewed in a blind-judging process, and rated based on criteria such as emotional engagement, purpose and commitment to the field of truck driving. The esteemed panel of judges included Lund International President and Chief Executive Officer, Mitch Fogle, and representatives from the Trucking Industry, ATA-American Trucking Association and Veteran employment agencies: Brad Bentley, President, FASTPORT, Chris Hale, Chairman, Victory Media, Inc., Duane Boswell, Vice President of Recruiting, TMC Transportation, Jason Schenkel, Talent Acquisitions & Fair Employment Manager, Holland and Paul Thompson, Military Recruiting Manager, USXpress.

Maines served in the US Air Force from 1976 at the age of 17, until his transition out of the service as an E5 Staff Sargent in 1984.  After his service, Maines spent a few years as a mechanic, then acquired his CDL (Commercial Driver’s License).  Maines is currently employed by Melton Truck Lines, Inc. and plans to drive until he reaches retirement age. He states “Trucking for me seems to be an ideal fit for those of us that have served and traveled to do so.  I like seeing the country and I like the work.  The view from my office window (windshield) is ever changing and never boring.”

As the contest winner, Maines received an all-expenses-paid trip to MATS, held March 23-25, 2017 in Louisville, Kentucky. Maines appeared in the Belmor exhibit booth where he was greeted by Bentley and Fogle, along with Tammy Gracek, Chief Operations Officer, Lund International, Kelli Brooks, Product Manager, Belmor, Marilyn Surber, Employee Services Manager, Melton Truck Lines, Inc. and current members of the US Air Force. In addition to the trip, Maines received a gift certificate for products from the Lund International family of brands for use on his vehicles, and Surber presented Maines with a rendering of a Kenworth™ T680 beautifully wrapped in a Veteran theme which he will drive in conjunction with his Melton Truck Lines, Inc. employment.
